CHESTNUTS VARIETY SANTIMANGO
CHESTNUTS VARIETY SANTIMANGO
Brown of Serino
The Marrone di Serino , also known as Santimango , is a native variety of our region, dating back to the period between the 11th and 12th centuries, thanks to the work of the Benedictine monks. Since then, the chestnut has begun to spread, becoming a predominant crop.
This chestnut is medium-large in size and has a rounded shape, often asymmetrical. The seed is milky white, with a white, firm and crunchy pulp. With a characteristic sweet flavour, the Marrone di Serino is particularly suitable for fresh consumption, in desserts such as tarts, creams and castagnacci, and is also excellent for making marron glacé .
Thanks to its characteristics, it is classified among the best Italian chestnuts and has been present in our lands since time immemorial.
